The second edition of Jewellers association show-‘Jas 2008’ was inaugurated on Thursday in Jaipur by the guest of honor Dr. Digamber Singh, Minister of Industries , Government of Rajasthan in the absence of the Chief guest of the event Vasundhara Raje, Chief Minister of Rajasthan. The guests of honor included SN Gupta, Chairman, Removal of Public Grievances Committee, Government of Rajasthan and Sanjay Kothari, Chairman, Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC).
The four day jewellery exhibition is a majorly B-2-C exhibiton with two hours dedicated to B-2-B trade, it is organized by the Jewellers Association of Jaipur which is a 80 year old organization.
“This year we have 270 stalls exhibiting in Jas ’08 which is spread across 3,000 square feet of area,” said Vivek Kala, President of Jewellers Association Jaipur.
“In the period of April-July the total gems and jewellery export accounted for $7bn which about 20% more as compared to the previous year. The colored stone segment had been a very negligible contributor in the total exports of the gems and jewellery industry but this year for the first time the colored stones segment has shown tremendous growth as compared to last year,” said Sanjay Kothari, Chairman, GJEPC.
Kothari also mentioned that the industry required more such B-2-C exhibitions because they ultimately attract consumers to the retailers, and the B-2-B exhibitions would grow only if the consumers are attracted by the retailers.
The event is held at Birla Auditorium in Jaipur from 28-31 August.
